Which essential oils should I use for a good night’s rest?

Essential oils for sleep can be split into two categories: oils that help relieve stress and combat insomnia, and oils that clear the airways and reduce snoring.

Essential oils that aid with sleep issues and insomnia

Among the over 90 recognized essential oils out there, the most popular sleep-time essential oil and #1 on our list is Lavender. Here’s why. This aromatic shrub has a fresh, floral scent mixed with woodsy undertones that can help combat insomnia and reduce emotional stress and tension.

Next on our list is Frankincense. With its sweet, deep, balsamic aroma, Frankincense has a grounding effect that helps with insomnia and is effective for calming anxiety.

Cedarwood essential oil is highly effective in reducing stress. Its woodsy, smokey scent has a strong balancing effect that treats nerve-related conditions.

Last but not least, Valerian essential oil is widely recognized as a sleep aid. It is often found in sleep supplements and in herbal teas commonly as a relaxant. Not only can it improve the quality of your sleep, but help your rise energized and excited to start your day.

Essential oils that clear the airways

Eucalyptus is our go-to essential oil for clearing airways. It is known as an air purifier, so it’s highly suitable for alleviating respiratory ailments and congestion. Eucalyptus also has calming properties that can help center and relax the mind.

Peppermint is huge on our list by helping reduce cough symptoms and opening up the airways.

Lemon essential oil helps you maintain a strong immune system. It’s great for when you feel a cold coming on or when you have a rough earache. You can mix Lemon essential oil with a carrier oil and rub around your ears.

Just like Eucalyptus, Rosemary essential oil is rejuvenating and relieves symptoms of cold and flu. It contains the compound cineole, which is excellent for breaking up mucus and reducing inflammation.
