Tell us about yourself!

My name is Steffe and I’m studying to become a Naturopathic Doctor (ND). I’m passionate about helping others live healthy lives. We each have our own definition of living and feeling healthy and I want to help others discover what that can mean. We all have goals and marks we want to leave on the world and  being in pain or feeling tired shouldn’t hold us back from that. Our health is invaluable and so, it brings me great joy to assist others in finding ways they can optimize their life by taking control of their health and making better choices so that they can ultimately live and feel well.

Why Naturopathic medicine?

Medicine had always appealed to me but I knew that the current health care system and the conventional route of becoming a MD didn’t align with my true passions. I  wanted more than band-aid solutions to illnesses and wanted to get to the root of why someone wasn’t well. Naturopathic medicine was the perfect fit for me because it looks at people through a holistic lens, understanding that a person is a complete system that includes more than just your physical body but your thoughts, emotions, the food you eat, the things you put on your skin and so on, all factor into your health. We learn both conventional medicine and traditional and natural forms of healing, so it’s a unique blend.  We spend an hour with our patients in our visits, so we get to connect with people on a deeper level which can be really inspiring. As NDs, we have a lot to pull from in our tool belt to help others heal but being trained to perform acupuncture and use herbal medicine are my favorites.

What is your favorite way to sweat?

I have a love-hate relationship with HIIT workouts- they can really beat you up while you’re doing them, but you always feel amazing after. It’s a good blend of resistance and cardio training for me.

What was your biggest learning of 2016?

Remaining humble. Assume that the person you are listening to might know something you need to know.

What keeps you motivated?

Knowing that I can help others live healthier lives. Being in an intense 4 year medical program can easily make me feel bogged down and stressed but remembering that at the end of my training I’ll be able to help others and positively influence their life keeps me going.

Who inspires you?

Female entrepreneurs. No offence to the men out there, but there’s something about a woman who has a vision and goes after it with a mission to solve a problem is so inspiring to me! #girlboss

Do you have any future plans we should know about?

Starting this May, I’ll be a naturopathic medical intern. You can come see me at the Robert Schad Naturopathic Clinic so I can help you reach your health goals!

Do you have any advice for our Way of Will Community?

Find your balance.
