Tell us about you!
My name is Alwynn. I’m a Pilates teacher. It’s the reason I wake up with enthusiasm in the morning, it’s what moves me, makes me cry and makes me want to do it all over again the next day. I remember reading something once that went like this “If you want passion in your life there is only one way to get it. Care. Care about your job. Care about your passion. Care about the sparks. That will persuade you”.
What is your favourite way to sweat and how did you discover it?
Tennis. I was 4 years old. My grandfather gave me my first racquet. I never put it down. Sweat is the best stress release.
What was your biggest learning of 2016?
How to truly listen and trust my intuition. Here is what I can share with you about this:
- Identify your core-beliefs.
- Let go of childhood hurt.
- Listen to your gut.
- Find meditation in unlikely places.
- Forgive self-harm.
- Break the bonds of resentments.
- Come home to yourself.
What keeps you motivated?
Revisiting my purpose for teaching, taking workshops, being a student in other classes and taking breaks is what keeps me motivated. Traveling, music, live shows, cultivating relationships keeps me inspired to continue doing what I love.
In what moments in your life do you feel most powerful?
Playing tennis, training for half marathons, after a full 8 hours of sleep, good food and honestly, teaching. It’s very powerful to be able to do what you love and inspire others through movement.
